A 16-year-old girl who was killed in a crash last Saturday night has been identified by authorities as a Tuscon resident.

The Department of Public Safety reports that the girl was a passenger in a van that crashed into another car along Interstate 10 Saturday evening around 6:30 p.m.

According to witnesses that van was traveling eastbound on I-10 when it unexpectdly crossed three lanes of traffic, clipping another car and sending the van into an uncontrollable spin.

The van hit a nearby chain linked fence. Neither the 16-year-old girl nor the 17-year-old driver of the van were wearing seatbelts. The 16-year-old was thrown through the windshield and pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver sustained non-life threatening injuries.

No one in the car that was clipped by the van was injured.
