A proposal that would ban Arizona drivers from reading, composing, or sending text messages while operating their vehicles was defeated in the Senate on Tuesday. While the original measure was altered to allow drivers to send messages from the side of the road while parked, the proposed regulation did not pass. Persons ticketed for texting while driving would have been subjected to a $50 fine, which would increase to $200 if the driver was involved in an accident.
