Deadly Cancers

By and far, the largest danger posed by tanning bed use is the development of deadly cancers. Self-tanners who occasionally use these beds see a 300% increase in their risks of acquiring malignant melanoma, while those who use the beds 10 times a year or more experience an 800% increase.

Other, non-melanoma skin cancers have been correlated with tanning bed use. A self-tanner’s chances of developing carcinoma can be up to 2.5 times higher than those who opt out of tanning bed use.

Arizona’s Minor Laws

While not all states in the US have age restrictions on tanning bed use, Arizona does. Anyone under the age of 18 who wishes to use a tanning bed must present the owner or operator of the facility with written parental permission. If the minor does not have a signed permission slip, then the facility must prohibit him or her from using the tanning beds.
